Pen Pusher Magazine has been running for nearly three years now, and we've come
a long way since our first issue in April 2006 ... some of you will perhaps
remember the slightly flimsy (but perfectly formed) sparse beauty of PP1.
It set the tone for what weve been doing ever since, that is, publishing
the best and most inspirational new fiction, poetry and features, in PP's
unique format and style.
Reading the many submissions we receive has also become much more of a
pleasure with each passing issue. Most of our contributors are sending us
work because they have read the magazine, loved it, understood the ethos
of PP and want to be part of what we do. And we have met many of you at our
launch parties, slowly building a little literary community in person and online.
But here's the rub ...
So far the magazine has been almost entirely self-funded by the team even our subscription costs cover little more
than postage and packaging. This means that, although we have great ideas for
the future, until we find a sponsor / investor / cash injection, they will remain
just that ideas. (We did apply to the Arts Council for funding, but were
refused on the basis of 'insufficient priority'.) At present, even producing
Pen Pusher as it is, is stretching the teams resources severely, to the point
where were not sure how long we can continue. This is where you might be able to help.
Working to the old adage that 'every little helps', we're asking friends of PP
our readers, contributors and subscribers (you may be all three!) to help us by
sponsoring pages in the magazine.
Our in-house mathematician tells us that each page of the magazine costs just two pence
to print, so even a pound would get us 50 pages!
Your generosity will, of course, not go unrewarded: well be printing a
philanthropists roll of honour in every issue, plus youll have the immeasurable
satisfaction of knowing that youre helping to keep Pen Pusher going. So next
time you find 20p on the pavement, or win a tenner on the lottery, please think of us!
