Poem

A Love Letter From The Trench

It's freezing cold my love,
Like being in a black hole,
Not being able to go home,
No peace, no rest, no sleep,
Trying hard not to weep,

All i see,
Life then death,
It only takes a flash,
Shell after shell,
That hits the ground,
Spinning my mind round and round,

It's hard to write,
Knowing about the fight,
When you have no light,
Day after day,
Night after night,
It's all the same,

I have no bed,
I have no clothes,
I have little food,
I want to go home,
I need to be alone,
That is if i have a home,
I try not to think in such a way,
But my mind is playing a game,

Every one sits and waits,
Dreading,
Those words they say,
They all mean death,

It's hard in the cold,
It's hard in the heat,
It's hard in the dark,
And it's hard on the feet,
Even when you have a little sleep,
Even if you have has something to eat,
It's dull and it's wet,
You try not to let,
The mud and the sweat,
Drag you down,

It's time to go,
Those words are said,
"Over the top my lads you go",
You don't feel the cold,
The fear starts to unfold,
You don't know it's like being in a Black hole,
You know you're never,
Going home,

We all start to move,
Slowly but surely,
You get to the top,

BANG,

And fall to the ground,
Friends that were shot,
Are no more apart of your life,
You pick yourself up,
You have to go on,

BANG,

It's them or it's you,
It's mean,
It's harsh,

BANG,

There all gone,
In such a flash,
They're going to be missed,

I have said my goodbyes,
I have to go,
I will always remember,
The love that you showed,

Goodbye my love,
I love you so.
